The Movement Center is dedicated to the cultivation of the power of spirit that is the essence of every person. We offer a place for spiritual practice, for refuge and retreat, for meditation, yoga and service. We are an intentional community, many of whom live in an ashram with Swami Chetanananda, our founder, as our spiritual teacher and guide. We see each person as a unique expression of a universal creative energy. We welcome all, with open hearts: all races, religions, national origins, genders, sexual orientations, ages, and disabilities.
We invite you to make contact with your deepest self, develop a natural alignment between your essence and your daily experience, and live in a state of flow that will transform you and your entire life. In this place of genuine connection, compassion and kindness automatically arise. This process is what we call growing, and it’s the purpose of our life on earth.
Anything that grows requires energetic resources, and The Movement Center exists to provide them. Our powerful lineage is the source of an energy field that is palpable, nourishing, supportive, uplifting and loving. Our meditation hall is saturated with the shakti of thousands of hours of practice; our spaces are filled with sacred images; our grounds are a peaceful oasis in the center of the city.
In our spiritual yoga, we reach into a dimension of ourselves that transcends tension, turmoil and trauma. We come to the understanding that everything is interconnected and that there is infinite abundance. We are filled with wonder and gratitude. This understanding changes the way we operate, so that we can live from a higher, finer place that affords the only real hope for change in our world.
In our local and extended community, we develop and sustain harmony within ourselves and with each other. From a deeply open place that we cultivate through our practice, we live with the awareness that life is a loving process. That loving process is vast, dynamic and full of possibility. Living in the sacred dimension of our lives is a conscious choice that requires a commitment, one that begins with a sincere, heartfelt intention to grow, continues with patience and perseverance as the process unfolds, and matures as the sweetness of devotion.
Our practice embraces tantric traditions that are ancient yet alive: Kashmir Shaivism, Sri Vidya, and Vajrayana Buddhism. Using these practices as a basis, we provide tools to help you live your most authentic expression. We would be delighted to share them with you.
