LEARNING THE CHOD PRACTICE

Come for  basic instruction on the practice of the Chöd ritual, given in two sessions. On each of these two days, there will be classroom instruction from 12:30 to 4:00 pm,  followed by participation in the Cham (dance of the Chöd) and the Chöd practice from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

Chöd is an ancient practice of cutting through tensions, fears, and obstacles in our life. In Chöd, we visualize making an offering of our body, which is transformed into whatever is wanted by all beings in all realms. In this vast offering we create and cultivate a flow with everything around us and are in contact with the boundless dimension of ourselves.

This course will draw on the teachings of Lama Tsering Wangdu Rinpoche, Swami Chetanananda, and the Longchen Nyingthig.

The topics we'll cover include:

  • What Chöd is and its origins

  • Instructions for practice, with commentary

  • Visualizations

  • How to play the drum and bell

  • The rhythms and melodies

  • Mudras
