KIRTAN WITH SHANTALA AND BIBI MCGILL

Our favorite kirtan artists, Shantala (Heather and Benjy Wertheimer), return to The Movement Center with special guest Bibi McGill. Join us on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 7:00 pm for an evening of Sacred Chants of Love and Grace.

Tickets are $15 in advance (through January 31) and $20 after.

Parking is available in the lot at the corner of NE 31st & NE Holladay Streets.

Benjy and Heather Wertheimer have been leading kirtan (sacred chanting) worldwide since 2001 as the duo Shantala. They are known for their special gift of bringing the audience into a vast and loving experience through their unique blend of exquisite voices with instruments of India and the West. Together they create music with beauty, passion, and reverence. Heather and Benjy have released five beautiful and well-loved albums of sacred chant music since 2003, including Living Waters, Jaya, LIVE in love, Sri, and The Love Window.

Shantala has performed and recorded internationally with such sacred music luminaries as Krishna Das, Deva Premal & Miten, and Jai Uttal. They were named as one of the top Kirtan “Wallahs to Watch” by Yoga + Joyful Living Magazine. Kirtan is a celebration of spirit through the chanting of sacred names, carrying the audience into a state of heightened awareness, bliss, and devotion. The audience is invited to participate fully through call-and-response chanting, dance, and meditation.

Bibi McGill is so much more than the woman behind the blazing guitar riffs that have elevated Beyoncé's live performances to the next level. As the touring guitarist and Musical Director of Beyoncé's 10-piece, all-female band, Bibi showcases her ability to rock her own original compositions within the framework of Beyoncé hits, all while overseeing the rest of the musicians and production elements onstage.

After graduating from The University of Colorado, with a Bachelors Degree in Music Scoring and Arranging, Bibi moved to California to cut her teeth in the clubs of Los Angeles. Bibi developed her impressive stage persona and indispensable expertise on the massive stages of Latin American with the likes of Paulina Rubio, often dubbed Mexico's Madonna, and Chilean rockers La Ley before joining Beyoncé's team. Making her home in Portland, Oregon, Bibi's healthy lifestyle is what keeps the afroed and intricately tattooed guitarist balanced.

Focusing her entrepreneurial energy on her own line of handmade, organic Bibi Kale Chips, she is also an accomplished yogi who strives to make yoga available to everyone. Having a passion for yoga and Kirtan since her first introduction in 1998, Bibi has also performed with Kirtan artists Dave Stringer, Karnamrita Dasi, Shantala, CC White, Simrit Kaur, The Hanumen and Gurunam Singh. Look for Bibi's "Peace, Jungle, LOVE" tour of Brazil in August 2015 in which she will will share her yoga workshops, health & wellness lectures, Kirtan, animal activism and youth out reach with the people of Brazil.
