Family Seeks Support in Preserving His Legacy
Our longtime friend and amazing musician, Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, passed away on June 18, 2009, at the age of 87. Khansabib and members of his family have performed for us many times over the
last 25 years, and we were privileged to have had music classes
with him at The Movement Center.
Here are a few of the recent articles about Khansahib:
Swami Chetanananda held Khansahib in the highest regard, and said of him: "He has achieved the siddhi of music, the gift of being able to find that space where music itself emerges, and is able to communicate that space to people. When you listen to him you are not just hearing the music, you are absorbed into it."
The Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California, founded by Khansahib, is attempting to preserve his legacy through the Ali Akbar Khan Library, which would archive 6,000 hours of audio recordings of his classes and concerts. The collection would be housed in a public library on the AACM campus. His family greatly appreciate donations for the library in honor of Khansahib.
You can view a short video about the Library project on YouTube. Here's more information about the project and how to donate to it.
