CALENDAR | ONGOING EVENTS

COMMUNITY DAY

sevaEvery other Saturday
8:00 am - 12:30 pm
Meet in dining room
Coordinator: Jim Brissette

Community days are a time when we build our community by working and learning together. It's a time when we can give back to the environment that sustains our programs. There are a wide variety of projects going on
at any time, including:

painting, carpentry, and general maintenance work in the building,
weeding, mulching and other gardening tasks,
raking and other yard work
moving furniture
general housecleaning
preparation for pujas
mailings and other office-related tasks.

Participating in community day is a wonderful way to get to know other students, learn a new skill or hone an existing one, and contribute in a tangible way to the welfare of a spiritual community. We work until 12:30 pm, and then all participants are invited to stay for lunch.

POETRY GROUP

First Monday of each month
6:00 - 7:00 pm
Meet in living room
Coordinator: Michelle Lawson

Our Poetry Group meets once a month--usually on the first Monday. We each bring poems we enjoy to read aloud, and we take turns reading to each other. You can bring poems by anyone, including yourself. Sometimes we choose a special theme for the month.

It's great if you can make copies of the poems you bring to share with others, but it's not necessary. You can just bring a book to read from. You're also welcome just to come listen
.

THE RUDI PUJA

Rudi PujaThursday mornings
8:00 - 8:30 am
Meet outdoors at Rudi's shrine
Coordinator: Kathy Dahlke and Len Riegler

In this weekly puja, we honor our lineage: Swami Rudranananda (Rudi) and Nityananda. The program begins outdoors with a short abishek (ritual cleansing) at the shrine to Rudi, and proceeds to the meditation hall, where there is arati (an offering of light) to the statues of Nityananda and Rudi. If you come, please bring an offering of candy, flowers or incense to the shrine.

CHANTING PRACTICE

chantingEvery other Saturday (alternates with Community Day)
11:30 AM- 12:30
pm
Meet in living room
Coordinators: Mira Ames, Linda Dima, Greg Esion

In these sessions, we practice existing chants, revive old favorites, and introduce new chants into our program.

If you have ever wanted to pick up an instrument and join the chanting musicians, or would like to learn the chants more fully, or just feel like to coming to observe/listen, please join us at any of these practice sessions.

The gatherings serve as a wonderful opportunity to participate in and learn about chanting. More than just a 'practice' - this is a time to get together with a group of talented musicians/chanters and experience the joy of chanting.

Chanting plays a vital role in our practice by creating the space within which the experience of meditation can unfold. If you're interested in being part of this experience, please come any time.

Please note: if you would like to participate but this time does not work for you, let one of us know, as we sometimes have impromptu, fun and productive practice sessions at other times.

GURU GITA

Sunday mornings (except on days when the Queen of Great Bliss puja is held )
9:15 - 10: 15 am
Meditation Hall
Coordinator: Govind Cornelison

The Guru Gita is a beautiful chant in the form of a dialogue between Lord Shiva and Parvati. Excerpted from the Skanda Purana, a major text of Hinduism, the Guru Gita describes the guru-disciple relationship and its role in the attainment of liberation.

SONG NIGHTS

Occasional Sunday or Friday nights (see monthly calendar for dates)
Ashram living room
Coordinator: Mira Ames

This event is designed to provide a casual, supportive environment in which we can each "test the waters" of the simple joy of singing for each other.

You should come with something in mind that you would like to sing. Each person sings once, and you can sing anything you want. We have microphones, which you can use or not, a piano, and a CD player if you'd like to have a CD for background. You can accompany yourself or have a friend accompany you on any instrument.
